Narrowboat Ride Along Regent's Canal
My husband and I were invited to ride along in one of the narrow boats over the weekend. This was particularly exciting as we have walked along the canal for years and have always wondered what the inside of one would look like and even better, what the canal looked like from the boat's perspective.
The couple on the boat had to move from their mooring spot near Angel and decided to try a two week stint near Paddington Station. They were happy to have two extra hands help with the locks and navigation.
It was a cold but sunny afternoon while we cruised along. I found the locks fascinating as for the first time we were the ones operating the sluice (pronounced s-lew-shh) gates and waiting for the water to drain or fill up in the lock. At Camden there are 3 locks right in a row with the last one (in the direction we were going) being the main attraction. There must have been a couple hundred people watching and taking videos as we made our way through; was really something else!
The ride was peaceful and it felt like were out of the everyday hustle and bustle, even if only a few hours.
